If you pay it off every month, and therefore rate doesn't matter and you're just looking for rewards, CITI is pretty good, as they give 5% on certain types of purchases. My wife and I do that with only those 5% purchases since they cap us at $300.00 per year cash back. Free money!

We then use Discover for everything else and get 1% back on those as well. Works especially great for big purchases for which we've already saved the money and can immediately pay off.

I don't know anything about Chase's cards though.

The Credit Pulls Database lists 7 MTVu cards obtained in 2008 by forum members.
$4000, $4,000, $4,000, $3,000, $2,000, $1,200, $800, $500.

All credit card companies will monitor usage for unusual activity.
IOW, if you usually only spend $100 a month, a $2,000 charge will raise red flags, and you will either be asked to confirm your identity, or it will be denied outright.

I would have to say Discover card is a better one, check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com under student card and you will be able to compare them side by side on rates, fees and rewards.

Sounds like you plan to carry a balance.
Please note that carrying balances reduces your score.
Those with top notch credit pay their cc bill in full each month and never pay a penny interest (apr).

If you consider not carrying balances, I would choose one with cash back rewards.
Since you won't be carrying balances, apr will not matter - you'll never pay it.

Now, if you need to carry balances get a card with an apr under 10%.
go to bankrate.com for a list the best cards

The Citi mtvU card has a better rewards structure.
Why not try for both?
Visit the website below and look in the Credit Pulls database for your state to see which credit reporting agency Citi pulls.
Chase is almost always Experian.

The MTVu card for sure is the best card. They give you points for getting good grades, paying on time and give you bonus items like concert tickets and more. That's the card I applied for and I loved it.

This is one of the best student credit cards available. There's also several other CITI student cards that allow you to earn rewards. You can find a complete list here:

http://www.asapcreditcard.com/student-cards.html

Of course... you should compare offers first before you apply. There's many options for you to choose from...

Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!
