What is a rush card? I would go for something that is prepaid no shocks at the end of the month. A credit card will put you in to debt big time

One should never get a credit card to lessen worries, credit cards should not be used to make ends meet. That is how people get into trouble with credit cards.

Yes you can pay off the balance before the statement arrives….as far as should you yes and no…yes because when you pay off the full balance each month you pay no finance charges/no interest…no because each month Citi will report your statement balance to the credit bureaus and if it continually shows up as $0 balance potential creditors will a) not know if you actually use the card b) will not know how responsibly you use the card thus…both a & b could ultimately get you denied credit because they still don't know your credit risk even with the card

Also it takes time to establish a credit history so one month will not do it — yes it will show you now have a credit card but it will show as new which could be seen as bad (applying for too much credit in a short period of time is not good and makes you look desperate) but in your case if you just wanna get a phone? You're ok — Are you setting up a new account? — if so this would be a situation where your credit is checked — if you are just getting the phone — it shouldn't involve any credit check…

FYI Some people say to pay off the whole balance of a card each month I leave a small balance to show I use the card and to show that I am able to maintain a balance well below my limit

Based on the fact that your step mom and dad are going to put you on their health insurance you will not be approved for a professional judgment.

You've stated you've made numerous attempts to get his help so in the eyes of the financial aid world you are in contact with him.

This is a really tough situation.

Because I'm also a mom, I'm going to tell you NOT to get married.
From the been there done that department, you're too young and need to get some life experience under your belt.

Getting married just to be able to do your FAFSA doesn't necessarily make life easier. I wish I had a magic wand and could fix this situation for you.

You're more than half way to a professional judgment but you hit a brick wall with the step mom activity and contacting 'dad'.

    Rhanda,

Do yourself a favor and don't worry about getting a CC to build credit. Too many people rely on CC to buy instead of saving up for what they need. I used to have $10,000 in CC debt and it wasn't worth it. I don't know how it even got that high. Little by little it just started building up. Please pay cash for everything you need or want. It can be done.

You are ROYALLY confused about inquiries in general.
    1. Calendar years are NOT relevant for inquires. Each inquiry appears on your credit report for a fixed number of MONTHS.
    2. Inquiries from ANY current creditor are 'soft' inquiries unless they result from a request BY YOU to increase your credit limit. Most 'purchases' don't even cause a soft inquiry.
    3. The 4 accounts under 6 months old are ALREADY affecting your score more that the inquiries will.
    4. YOU always have the right to see your credit file even if a 'security freeze' is in place.

NOTE: In my opinion, there are no pros to ANY credit line.

I too am in the process of filing bankruptcy. We just began the process in February. My first missed payment was 3 years ago. I was sent to collection 2.5 years ago. I've never been sued by anyone. All my bills have been sent to collections. I receive bills from collection agencies daily. I just file them away. There isn't anything we can do about them. I wouldn't bother contacting them. If you can't pay, you can't pay. You'll get sent to collections. Then, you can file bankruptcy. I do not get phone calls anymore because I've changed my number numerous times and now is unlisted.
