Credit cards have changed the course of conducting business in the world today. Everywhere, almost everybody is using plastic and business establishments are accepting credit card services. In fact, business establishments who do not accept plastic money tend to lose potential customers because this has gained so much popularity that some people even have several cards to their name.

Credit cards are now widely used for payment of transactions and services done in stores, merchant outlets or even online. In fact, it would be hard to imagine a world without plastic. Businesses that are not accepting or offering this feature may even be classified as non-serious businesses because they carry on without the latest trend.

The concept of credit card services include the procedure of accepting plastic money as a mode of payment for purchases, services or for other transactions. It has taken the place of cash in the wallets of the vast majority of the world’s population that is why if you own a store and do not provide this service, chances are you will just sigh with regret as you see potential customers and sales slip through your fingers.

This is why accepting affinity cards have become a very important part of the whole business. When a customer pays for his purchases using a card, the shopkeeper or merchant uses a card processing machine to process the payment for the transaction. Availing of these credit card services benefits both the merchant and the customer. It makes business flow smoothly for the businessman and it spells total convenience for the customer.

This service also comes very handy in making online transactions. With the advent of the internet, online businesses like virtual shops mushroomed everywhere. Customers only need to browse through these online stores and if they find anything they want to buy or services they want to avail of, they can order and pay online using their respective cards.

Customers will be asked to fill in an online form giving details of their cards for the merchant to process. Once your card is verified, the merchant will debit the specified amount from you and credit it to his account. It all takes just a few minutes to complete the whole transaction.

Credit card services also come in other forms aside from charging your payments online. Some examples are the method of using cards for over-the-phone payments, and using third party online service providers who assist you in accepting card payments. Online companies have also started to implement mechanisms and technology to secure the details and information a customer keys in when paying for transactions.

This is because fraudsters also came into existence. These fraudsters may find a way to get access to your personal details and may use it to conduct transactions without your knowledge. With the advent of modernization, we can expect more innovations as companies are trying to cook up more ways of offering credit card services to satisfy their customers.

Help answer the question about credit card services

Can I get my money back through my credit card for services not received if company is now bankrupt?
I pre-payed for a class for my kids for this summer, and have now found out the company is shutting down and likely declaring bankruptcy, thus not providing the classes. I payed for it with my Discover Card. Will I be able to go through Discover and get my money back or will that not work due to the bankruptcy? Thanks.

    Good question-!!

Either one (banks or the networks) should come up with that option. Visa came up with "Verified by Visa". Instant e-mail notifications on transactions as an option, is a great idea.

Either one could easily cover the infrastructure costs. Credit bureaus charge membership fees for 24/7 credit monitoring with e-mail notifications when changes occur but, where am I going with that?

To begin with, I'm not sure if "any insiders" even thought of that. They should read this post but not the part that you said, "I never use my card"….ha-ha. It would imply, they're not gonna make any money off you. (i-e: so why bother).

It is a matter of security. Keep suggesting to banks or Visa,MC, Amex,DC. These payment methods are popular by the minute.

EDIT: Visa came up with $0 liability protection a few years back on all their USA issued cards.(debit and credit). In that case, it would help them in order that card holders get to know any unauthorized transactions immediately as they happen (not a few days online or at a statement weeks later). Other companies, if not, may well follow suit.

the best rates I have found are through the executive membership program at Costco. The credit card vendor is Inova which is one of the biggest in the industry.

I worked there for about 3 months in 1999. Like the other person said the pay is decent, but I left because I wanted better hours and not have to work every other weekend. If you don't mind people calling to yell and cuss you out about their bill statement, then you will do just fine! :)

No. The tips are part of your pay. They can't take your pay without your permission.

It depends whether your bank has closed shop completely, or they closed shop and sold your account to another bank.

If they closed shop, then they might be declaring bankruptcy. I don't think you'd be impacted.

If they sold your account, then the other bank has the right to collect on the money that you owe.

Either way, it's simply like this: as long as you have a balance on your [credit card] account, you WILL be charged interest.

Believe me, no bank is giving you something that will not benefit them in the long run. Sometimes those perks may only be offered for a limited time and then in some months you begin to see interest on your bills. Sometimes they only offer those services to those who stay current on their bills and if you are late or over the limit they will slam you with up to 25% interest and late fees and overage charges. Read the fine print, not just what looks good. There may be no interest and no fees for purchases, but like a 19% on everything else,i.e. cash advances, transfers, etc
