Bad Credit? Get the Credit Card you Want and the Credit Card you Need!

So you have bad credit, millions do, and more importantly millions did.  Yes million of people have taken the steps necessary to improve their credit history, and credit ratings.

Before you start to improve your credit rating, it’s critical to find out why your credit is in the state that it is. If you don’t know why your credit is poor, then you must ask to see your credit reference file to find out.  At the UK Credit Card Centre we can help you in your quest to understand your credit score (Visit our Credit Help page).

Once you have a good understanding why your credit score is poor, or bad, there are a number of simple steps you can take to help improve your credit rating and start to rebuild credit history and score:

  • Make sure you are on the electoral roll. It only takes a few minutes to register with your local council and it will help to improve your credit score over time.
  • Always pay bills when they are due. This will begin to improve your credit history and score and will again give you an improved credit rating over time.
  • Do not apply for too much credit.  The number of times you apply for credit, either credit cards or loans can have a negative effect on your credit score. Every application for credit is logged into your credit file.  Too many credit applications in a short period of time may not help your credit rating.
  • The truth matters.  When applying for credit never give false or misleading details.  Always tell the truth.  If there are inconsistencies with past credit applications or details that are held on credit checking systems differ from your application it will affect your credit score.
  •  Start to build a credit history over time and when you check your credit reference file you should find an improved credit score.  Remember good credit will not occur over-night, but if you take the time to fix your credit blemishes, your score will improve over time.

So how can you improve credit ratings if you can’t get credit?  Credit card companies like our Vanquis and Capital One are specially designed for people with bad credit, or for people that have credit that needs help.  Even if you have been turned down by other credit card companies, you may be able to qualify for cards designed to improve credit.

As long as you manage the card properly, stay withn your credit limits and pay promptly, this is a good way to build credit history and to improve your credit rating.  Take the time to understand how to build good credit, and you will start down the road of financial freedom.  To find out more about cards designed for people with bad credit, Please visit our site UK Credit Card Centre for additional details.

Credit Card?
I am an 18 year old student looking to establish credit. I know all the responsibilities of having a credit card, im just wondering if it would be acceptable for me to call a credit card company and ask them to give me a credit card.

I can do that, correct?

In this economic climate, the only way you're going to get a credit card with your FICO is a secured card, meaning you'd have to put the money to back your credit limit in a savings account with the guarantor. I would recommend avoiding falling into the payday loan trap (usury interest rates mean you will be paying back much much more than you borrowed), and please do not respond to all of the spammer/scammer posts you are going to get in response to your question.

If you are "crafty", you could make things and see them on Etsy or sell personal items on eBay. If it's possible (ie, you are not already employed and/or have a child care arrangement) you may want to apply for a job at a temp agency and work until you have the money you need.

    Best of luck to you.

you will have to get a secured card with a 580 credit score. try to get it somewhere besides bank of america. they will charge you super high interest.

student cards are for young people who have no credit history. that isn't your situtation.

First, credit counseling may help, but for such a small amount it might not be worth it. They usually charge a fee. For $5k, you might end up spending more with that than you would just paying the interest on the cards till they're paid off.

First, cut up the cards and do not use them anymore. Don't spend a dime. Cancel any and all automatic payments on them and transfer those to a debit card.

You need to call the card you're late on and explain the situation and see what they will accept if you make a few payments here and there every couple of weeks to catch up. Then get to a point where the account is in good standing. In the mean time, pay the minimum on the other.

Once you're in good standing with both cards, look at the interest rates. Take the card with the highest rate (unfortunately, probably the highest balance) and begin to pay twice the minimum payment plus 10%, if you can afford it. Otherwise, just twice the minimum. Pay the minimum on the other card. Calculate what this amount is for the VERY FIRST MONTH. Pay that amount on that card each and every time, even though the minimum payment goes down.

Once this card is paid off, take the amount you were paying on it, add it to the minimum payment of the other card and pay this same amount each and every month until it's paid off.

If you get a tax return or monitary gifts, put 10-30% of that towards the card you're mainly paying off.

By the way, if the interest rates end up being the same on both cards, start paying the lower balance card off first, because you'll pay that one off first and it'll help motivate you. Plus it won't put you in the poor house to pay twice that minimum plus 10% on that one.

DO NOT apply for another card, DO NOT use these cards, and DO NOT engage in any unneccessary spending (clothes, shoes, handbags, nice things, extravagant gifts for friends, going out to drink, etc) until after you've paid them off. If you want out of debt and your credit fixed, you need to understand you're living beyond your means and must live way below them for a time until you can get your head above water.

NEVER stop paying on a debt. As long as you send in something, they can't sue you or reposess anything, or even really damage your credit too bad. Late payments damage your credit score.

Try First Premier, H.S.B.C. and Orchard Bank they are the ones I used after my BK back in 2001.

The bank probably won't give you a regular credit card, however they do have what is called a secure credit card. Basically, it's a card that you put in however much money you have and you just use it like a credit card. Everytime you use it, you pay it right back and that will slowly build you credit. I started with a secure credit card and it works.

  14. csss s Says:

no do not get that credit card — stay with the bank secure card until you get you savings in line and your credit score i good enough for your bank to issue you a regular credit card!!!
